Overview of ABA Services

Individualized

Your child is unique and therefore we believe it is our job to design a behavior intervention treatment plan that is individualized to your child’s specific needs. Our Behavior Analysts continually assess each child’s needs and use Guiding Light's extensive curriculum objectives to create a specialized program for each child.

Research-based

Given the importance of early intervention, we are committed to using proven, evidence-based ABA interventions to ensure that each child progresses at the fastest rate possible. We do this by ensuring the strategies and interventions we employ are backed by rigorous research and that they have been proven effective by the most experienced practitioners and specialists in the field of ABA.

Comprehensive

Our highly skilled staff members are trained in a wide range of ABA methods so that they have many options to find the intervention that works best to meet your child’s specific needs. Also, our curriculum includes over one thousand lessons that can be customized to teach children with autism and other disabilities the new skills they may need across numerous developmental areas.

Data-Driven Progress

Here at Guiding Light, we understand the importance of taking data on your child’s progress. Measuring your child’s progress with data collection is the best way to prevent time from being wasted, since data show all team members exactly when your child is ready to move on in the behavior intervention plan.

Professionally Trained Staff

At Guiding Light, we believe in providing extensive training to our staff so that they have the skills they need to effectively help children with a range of behavior challenges. Our behavior technicians receive initial, in-office instruction and practice in autism, ABA methods, data collection, and ethical issues. Additionally, our behavior technicians have completed competency-based training in which they accurately and independently implemented these ABA methods. All our behavior technicians have also passed both written and field evaluations demonstrating their proficiency with understanding and using these techniques.

Parent Involvement

As a parent, you know your child the best, which is why we welcome parent input and feedback regarding your child’s ABA program.

Team Approach

In our intensive ABA treatment programs, multiple family members, behavior technicians, school staff, and related professionals (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, etc.) need to meet to review data on your child’s progress to update the behavior intervention plan. Guiding Light runs these team meetings with your student’s behavior intervention team in order to promote consistency of the ABA intervention across all team members.

Collaborative

Through on-going collaboration, Guiding Light promotes the integration of ABA methods across all professionals working with your child. Moreover, collaboration provides an opportunity for other professionals to share important information with the behavior intervention team.

Assessment

Our Behavior Analysts conduct functional assessments of problem behaviors through direct observation of your child and through interviews with caregivers. Behavior Analysts also conduct adaptive behavior assessments to guide the design of developmentally appropriate treatment objectives, which are individualized to meet your child’s unique needs.

Designing

Using the information from the assessments, our Behavior Analysts design a behavior intervention plan (BIP) describing the ABA interventions necessary to increase your child’s appropriate behaviors and reduce his or her problem behavior.

Training

Behavior Analysts provide both you and your child’s behavior intervention team with initial and on-going training regarding how to deliver your child’s BIP.

Also, your child’s Behavior Analyst monitors the accurate and consistent delivery of your child’s program in order to ensure that your child is making optimal progress to reach his or her goals.

Services Provided by the Behavior Technician (RBT)

Implementation

Our behavior technicians implement your child’s behavior treatment program using a variety of ABA techniques, such as discrete trial teaching (DTT) and natural environmet training (NET) to increase your child’s appropriate behaviors and to decrease his or her problem behaviors.

Data Collection

Also, our behavior technicians collect comprehensive and detailed data regarding your child’s progress and use this information on a day-to-day basis to advance your child’s ABA treatment program.

In-Home ABA Therapy

Currently, Guiding Light provides highly structured, in-home ABA therapy services to all of our clients. Our home-based ABA program allows our behavior technicians to work 1 on 1 with your child in the home environment to address all concerns that have been identified through behavior and language assessments. All in-home programs are designed and closely monitored by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
